Back in the day I began my internet marketing career by joining countless programs that promised a fast and easy way to make money online. As you might have guessed none of these really performed as well as they were hyped. I have talked about the Free Rich Jerk Website elsewhere in this blog and urged my readers to stay clear of anything affiliated with the Rich Jerk. Free websites are never really free and are usually a waste of your money.
Having said that I will mention Profit Mart which is a subscription website service that I joined ages ago and still belong to. Does it make a ton of money? Nope... but it does make enough to cover the $20.00 monthly fee and still leave a few extra dollars in my bank account. My best month was just over $500 and it averages about $200 most months. I mention it for those of you who are brand new to this ( judging by the mountain of emails I get there are a lot of you who want to get started but don't know what to begin with. ) This program provides you with a ready made website which promotes Clickbank, Amazon and Ebay products - literally thousands of products for just about any niche you can think of.
The site allows you to add anything you want to it including your own adsense ads. The owners of Profit Mart also send traffic to your site until you make back your monthly fee ($20). When I joined I had my fee back within 1 or 2 days.
While you get everything you need to sell products online you will still have to promote the site. This is where it can get expensive if you don't know what you are doing. In the beginning I used articles to promote products on the site as this method cost me nothing. I posted articles on Goarticles.com which hyped the top converting clickbank products (usually adware/spyware stuff) and sent the reader to my profit mart site. I converted about 3 - 4% of the traffic into buyers which wasn't great but since it was free I still made money. As I learned which products converted the most sales I started using adwords to get more traffic. It took some trial and error to find the right keywords but once achieved I have consistently made more sales and profits. Typically I spend between $300 and $400 a month on adwords and bring in $500 - $700 a month in sales. Not great but still profitable. I have found that promoting new products tends to give me the highest conversions. When sales begin to drop off I change to a new "Hot" product and start over - new keywords - new articles etc.
This will not make you rich but for newcomers it has some benefits; you don't have to set up a site, you don't need to get listed in the search engines and you slowly learn the ins and outs of affiliate marketing and niche marketing in particular while still making a few dollars in the process. This is also the easiest way for beginners to start out as everything (except traffic)is provided for you in one easy to follow package.
For the more experienced marketer:
I still use the site as a testing ground for products - there are thousands to choose from - once I find something that sells I build a niche blog or one page sales letter for the individual product and send traffic there instead. I find that I convert more sales using an individual sales page than using a webstore with multiple products on it.
